With KindBird Beauty you can rest assured that each and every product has been thoroughly vetted to meet our 3 pillars -

so you never have to compromise.

If you’re new to the world of green beauty (welcome!) or are thinking about transitioning some of your beauty routine (you should!), this post is here to help you understand the what, why and how.

What does non-toxic mean when it comes to beauty products? It means products that are formulated without harsh ingredients, which have or may be proven to be toxic to our health.

Although we often think of our skin as a barrier to the outside world, the truth is that it is our largest organ and absorbs 60% of what we put on it (this is how medical patches work). If we were only using 1-2 products daily that 60% might not be so concerning; however the reality is most women use 12 to 15 different products daily (shampoo, conditioner, face cream, makeup, body lotion etc.); exposing themselves to over 80 unique ingredients every day. Many of these ingredients such as parabens, triclosan, and sulfates are carcinogens (cancer promoting) and have proven negative health effects including reproductive complications, and neurological concerns.

Because these chemicals are being absorbed through your skin and straight into your blood rather than through your digestive system like food would, they tend to accumulate in your body as we lack the necessary enzymes to break them down.

Even worse, the beauty industry is largely self-regulated meaning many of the ingredients have not been properly tested for safety. Consider that only about 10 ingredients are banned in the US while the EU has banned over 1,372! In addition, much of the concern for these conventional products comes from the fact that they are a cocktail of several toxic ingredients and more often than not the combined effects have not been researched for long-term impact. Essentially what you don’t know may very well hurt you.

At KindBird Beauty we have done our research and strongly believe that what we put on our body holds just as much importance as what we put in it. We want the best for our families, our customers and ourselves and have researched each product to deem it completely safe before offering it to you. We know you’re busy and that’s why we are to help. You can feel secure that every product you find on KindBird Beauty is not only effective but also non-toxic and of the highest quality.

Although there are hundreds of ingredients used in conventional products we recommend avoiding due to their known and unknown negative health effects, below are some of the most common and frightening ones to look out for. Click here if you'd like to learn more about each of these ingredients.

3. DEA-related ingredients
4. Dibutyl phthalate
5. Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives
6. Parabens
7. Parfum (a.k.a. fragrance)

Beauty and personal care products are a primary source of our chemical exposure.

It’s just not worth it.

A major issue with personal care and beauty products that no one seems to talk about is their effect on the environment. Not only is our skin absorbing 60% of the ingredients we put on it, many of these toxic chemicals also end up in our aquatic and terrestrial eco systems post use. Research has demonstrated that, through disposal and our drainage systems, personal care products can be found in surface and waste water and are therefore highly likely to contaminate the aquatic environment. This contamination is likely to pose health risks on human and non-human life.

U.S researches have reported that 1 in every 8 of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are actually industrial chemicals such as plasticizers (used to keep concrete soft), surfactants (reduce surface tension in water in paint) and degreasers (used to get grime off auto parts). It goes without saying that industrial chemicals are harsh and hazardous to the environment.

At KindBird Beauty we are committed to only carrying products that, are not only safe for us but safe for the environment as well. We ensure that none of our products include ingredients or manufacturing processes that, are hazardous to our aquatic or land ecosystems. The products we carry are made by companies that share our belief—that we are responsible for taking good care of the earth even as we take good care of ourselves.

After doing extensive research in to the world of animal testing, founder, Meha Sethi was deeply moved to create a space where individuals are not only able to learn about what animal testing entails but also have peace of mind to shop from brands whose individual ingredients and end products have ever been tested on animals.

As you read this, millions of animals – mainly rabbits, mice, rats, cats, dogs, and primates are - locked in laboratory cages forced to endure cruel animal testing; causing chronic pain, extreme frustration, fear, loneliness and eventually death. These laboratories offer a complete lack of environmental enrichment putting the animals under a huge deal of stress and terror and causing many to develop trauma-type behaviours including pacing, pulling out their own fur, biting themselves, and rocking back and forth. They are constantly living in fear and experience blood pressure spikes when someone approaches, only eventually to be killed after they are no longer deemed necessary for the research. Click here to learn more about animal testing and why we never support it.

Animal testing is not a practice we want to be supporting on any level, therefore KindBird Beauty only carries products, which are 100% cruelty-free. We really do vote with our dollars and the more we purchase from companies using animal testing, the longer these barbaric practices continue.

We invite you to join KindBird Beauty on supporting non-toxic, sustainable and cruelty-free beauty brands!
